Robinson Construction Company today announced work on the Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial project in Perryville, Missouri has earned the company a national Excellence in Construction® Eagle Award, which will be presented during ABC Convention 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee, on Aug. 18. The EIC awards program is the industry’s leading competition that honors both general and specialty contractors for innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects.

Frank Robinson, CEO of Robinson Construction, was honored to be involved in this project. “The nature of this project allowed for the owner, contractor, craftsmen, and community to collaborate effectively and pay respect to our nation’s veterans.”

The project included erection of a full-sized replica of the D.C. Vietnam Wall (the granite panels came from the same quarry in Bangalore, India as the original Vietnam Veterans Memorial), construction of a welcome center, military museum, pavilion, and an honor flag memorial.

“The craftmanship of Robinson Construction Company and their hardworking employees continues to raise the bar when it comes to how we define excellence in construction,” said 2020 ABC National Chair Tim Keating, owner and president of R.C. Stevens Construction Co., Winter Garden, Florida. “It’s an honor to recognize these award winners for their respective commitments to building safely, on time and on budget, as well as contribute to the communities in which they work.”

The EIC award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.

This year's panel included representatives from Building Owners and Managers Association International, Smithsonian Facilities Construction Division, Construction Management Association of America, Engineering News-Record, Design-Build Institute of America and various construction-related firms nationwide.

PeopleReady Skilled Trades is the presenting sponsor of the Excellence in Construction® Awards.

Robinson Construction Company was ranked #12 on Associated Builders and Contractors’ 2019 Top 20 Performers in the Midwest List, which recognized ABC member contractors’ achievements in safety, quality, diversity and project excellence ranked by work hours.

Published as a supplement to Construction Executive magazine, the lists identify the Top 150 Performers, Top 50 Performers with Special Designations and Top 20 Performers by Region.

“ABC Top Performers are leading the way in the merit shop construction industry, where diverse participants are constantly striving to achieve the highest levels of personal and company performance in an environment of fair and open competition,” said Michael Bellaman, president and chief executive officer of ABC. “These rankings will help the industry identify contractors like Robinson Construction that have achieved world-class safety performance, demonstrated their commitment to their workers and their communities and earned recognition for project excellence and diversity.”

Robinson Construction recently earned the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Quality Management Systems (QMS) Certification for structural steel erection with endorsements for seismic and metal desk installation. The AISC QMS Certification sets the quality standard for the structural steel industry and is the most widely recognized national quality certification program for the industry.

To become certified, companies go through a rigorous initial evaluation and are subject to annual reviews. The evaluations require a comprehensive administrative review, documentation audit, and on-site audit to evaluate a company’s quality management system rather than just specific product inspection. The program focuses on the entire process of fabrication and erection – confirming that a company has the personnel, organization, experience, procedures, knowledge, equipment, and commitment to meet the AISC Standards.

Because the program requires participants to set goals and holds them accountable for all aspects of their organization, from management responsibility to employee training to material purchasing and handling to project specific erection and safety plans - participants will continually improve over time. According to QC Manager Willy Oldham, “Robinson’s goal is to build quality structures from the start by focusing on preventing errors rather than correcting them after the fact. By pre-planning and quality tracking, we can reduce re-work, which is beneficial to all parties involved. AISC certified contractors are held to the strictest standards of quality and safety, which means our customers can rest assured that we not only know the way things should be done, but that we are actually doing them that way.”
